Chromatic Odyssey: Vivid, Layered Abstracts

Collection: Chromatic Odyssey: Vivid, Layered Abstracts

This series is built on contrast, the energy that happens when light and dark push against each other, and when color is given room to be intense. Working with a palette knife, I layer paint to build surfaces with real physical presence. But what drives these paintings isn't texture for its own sake. It's the interplay of light and shadow, and the way that contrast creates a charge in the composition. The colors are vivid and deliberate, chosen for the tension they create against each other as much as for their individual qualities. The contrast does the work. You feel it before you understand it.

About the Artist

Sarah Simmerman, an Arizona-based artist, uses her art to explore emotion and growth. Inspired by color's transformative power, she creates abstract works that cascade with vibrant hues that seek quiet under the waves of exuberance. Layering colors and texture, Sarah creates works that are both structured and free flowing, offering catharsis and a reflection of her own introspective journey.

Hailing from Northern Virginia, Sarah honed her artistic skills at the Savannah College of Art & Design, earning her BFA. Sarah has resided in Arizona for the past 15 years and is actively involved with the arts community in the West Valley.
